The Media Council of PNG has continued its reform agenda by reconnecting with its Lae-based media personnel.

While attending the first Community Coalition Against Corruption National Meeting in Lae on April 24th, the MCPNG, with the help of the Media Development Initiative (MDI), used the opportunity to meet with Lae-based media workers, and engage with them on the challenges they face operating in the province.

Selected Editors, representing MCPNG members listened to the Lae journalists and provided advice on how to deal with them.

Editors who had Lae offices, also noted concerns raised by their journalists.

This the first of what the Council hopes will be a regional-focused initiative to reestablish and strengthen rapport and communication to reporters operating on their own with limited support from their Port Moresby-based head offices.

MCPNG President Neville Choi, reassured the Lae media personnel to speak freely and to be honest about their challenges so that the editors present could take note of them, and offer solutions that have worked.

The Council, through its partnership agreement with ABC International Development through its Media Development Initiative, plans to continue with other regional visits to reconnect with its regional media groups.
