You can support the Media Council of Papua New Guinea (MCPNG) and its partners by attending some of the events we organize. 

Join the Media Council of PNG, the NBC and Lamana Hotel, for the PNG National Press Club, featuring Guest Speaker Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Lands, Physical Planning and Urbanization, and Member for Lae, Hon. John Rosso. Press Club Series Editor for this event is Editor In Chief of the Post Courier, Mr. Matthew Vari. 

Tickets are on sale for K150 per person from the Lamana Hotel Reception.

MCPNG PNG National Press Club (PNGNPC) 

The Media Council of PNG (MCPNG) has brought back its signature public discussion exchange platform, the PNG National Press Club. This is aimed at strengthening rapport and discussion between the industry, National Government, and the members of the public. 

The PNGNPC is a live Television Production by the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) Television Service, and simulcast on NBC Radio and NBC Online and its Social Media Platforms. 

The event is a partnership between the MCPNG, the NBC, and Lamana Hotel as the official venue provider.

World Press Freedom Day - May 3rd

Every year on May 3rd, Journalists the world over celebrate World Press Freedom Day. A day dedicated to the memory of journalists who died in the line of duty, the immense challenges journalists face in their pursuit of the truth, and speak about the work of the Media Council of Papua New Guinea at all events commemorating this day for journalists all over the world.


PNG Media Freedom Day Breakfast - May 3rd, 2022

Held for the first time this year on May 3rd, the PNG Media Freedom Day Breakfast is an initiative of CAD43, a private organization comprising former Journalism graduates of the Divine Word University (DWU). This event is expected be held annually, every day on World Press Freedom Day (May 3rd).


Investigative Journalism Awards

On World Press Freedom Day 2021, MCPNG, in partnership with Transparency International PNG (TIPNG) and the European Union launched the Investigative Journalism Award. An award to be given in recognition of outstanding pieces of investigative journalism work by journalists in the mainstream media. Part of preparing the media for this award, includes the staging and facilitating of Investigative Jounalism training workshops for PNG Media practitioners.

Annual PNG Media Awards

An annual event for the MCPNG, the PNG Media Awards have been missing from the PNG Media Scene for some time. The Council is working with its partners in the UN, Business and Resource Industry to revive this event which brings together media practitioners from around the country to recognise outstanding displays of journalism across a wide cross-section of subjects and reporting areas.
